Social Responsibility

Talent Africa Performing Arts

Signium Africa supports Talent Africa Performing Arts, now called African Artists Development (AAD), a namesake organisation that was established with the core objective of giving disadvantaged artists, with the relevant talent, the best opportunity to be exposed to the entertainment world on both a national and international level.

Apart from previously sharing a name, we believe that we also share a passion for talent development. It is for this reason that Signium Africa embraces this organisation as one of our social responsibility beneficiaries.

Through this partnership AAD has managed to be part of some exiting projects in 2017.

Gauteng Opera

Pro bono Assignments

The Institute of Directors Southern Africa (IoDSA)

The Institute of Directors in Southern Africa is a professional body recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and a non-profit company that exists to promote corporate governance, and to maintain and enhance the credibility of directorship as a profession.

This included identifying potential candidates, facilitating the interview process with the IoDSA executive team and conducting competency assessments on behalf of the Institute. www.iodsa.co.za

Black Management Forum (BMF)

The BMF espouses a value system which embraces high standards and sets tone and measure in business ethics, not only amongst black organisation, but South African society in general. Through its value system, its disciplines and perseverance towards a just cause, the leadership of the BMF has made a meaningful contribution to the stability of the country and the progress made on socio-economic development. The organisation builds confidence and capacity amongst black managers by providing a support structure that facilitates their integration into a business environment which is often hostile and unsupportive. Talent Africa supported the BMF in 2013 by conducting a full pro bono search for their new Managing Director, advertising three senior vacancies in the Sunday Times and participating in the BMF Annual Conference through a Platinum Sponsorship. www.bmfonline.co.za

Mapungubwe Institute for Strategic Reflection

Mapungubwe Institute for Strategic Reflection was founded by a group of South Africans with experience in research, academia, policy-making and governance, who saw the need to create a platform of engagement around strategic issues facing South Africa. Their mission is to advance South Africa’s development by addressing the complex challenges that straddle issues of nation-forming, economic growth, social equity, science and technology and positioning in a global world. Talent Africa contributed to the Mapungubwe Institute for Strategic Reflection by conducting a pro bono Director Remuneration Survey in 2012. The nature of the work included gathering information on the remuneration practices for the Boards of other similar institutions and benchmarking the salaries of the Institute’s full-time staff against other similar institutions. www.mistra.org.za

Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Foundation

Bambo Sibiya

Bambo Sibiya completed a Design certificate at Benoni Technical College in 2005 and with a friend opened a small graphic design business where they were able to purchase a computer to design logos and pamphlets for local entrepreneurs.

His teacher, Paul Madi Phala, recommended that he should apply to Artist Proof Studio (APS) to attend printmaking classes in the Saturday programme while continuing to support himself. His determination to succeed and his natural talent convinced Lucas Ngweng, a teacher at APS, to recommend him as a full-time student. Bambo, at this time explains that he caught “the printmaking bug”. In 2008 he was offered a full bursary to enter second year as a full time student. Since these humble beginnings, Bambo has never looked back. Some of his major achievements are:

  • Ekurhuleni Art Award Finalist in 2008
  • “Top Student of the Year” Award at Artist Proof Studio in 2009
  • Finalist in the ABSA Atelier top 10 Awards in 2011
  • Winner of Gerald Sekoto Award 2012
  • “David Brown” exhibition at Sandton Art Gallery in 2011
  • "Coming of Age" exhibition at Johannesburg Art Gallery with Artist Proof Studio in 2012
  • “Art Fair” at Sandton Convention Centre, Sandton in 2012
  • "Art child" exhibition at Design Indaba with Absa Gallery 2012
  • “David Brown” exhibition at Sandton Art Gallery in 2012
  • Turban 2013

Signium Africa, previously Talent Africa, supports Bambo in various ways. Firstly, by displaying some of his art in our offices and most recently by sponsoring his visit to Paris, France to familiarise himself with different painting techniques. He also visited various art galleries to acquaint himself with past and present global standards.
